This is a DVD series called “On The Road To The Abolition Of Slavery.” It is a presentation of Slavery in the United States in the 18th and 19th centuries featuring live interviews, reenacted of course, with the people who fought for and against the institution of slavery.  You hear what they did, said and thought about the whole institution of slavery directly in their own words without any 3rd person narration which could act as a lecture.

A roundtable discussion with (l-r) ANN Producer & Director Stephen D. Edison, Harriett Beecher Stowe and Frederick Douglass reviewing Solomon Northup’s book “Twelve Years A Slave.” Volume 6

These are made for classroom discussions with two major departures from the traditional way history is taught by a professor. The history making individuals are interviewed similar to late night television celebrities, and second, there is a total absence of 21st century lecturing.  No one tells the viewer that this or that person was good, bad or great or what he thought or meant.  Hear for yourself what they said, how they said it, and what their opinions were and then make up your mind what these people contributed to our American History.

A Teacher’s guide is available with word glossaries, suggested questions and the complete listing of source material. As of January 2011 seven DVD’s are available approximately 90 minutes each with 83 unique unforgettable scenes.
